This is a temporary burial of Zuotang Zhang's maternal grandmother. She will be reburied the same day the following year. She was temporarily buried because the yin-yang found that the east-west direction in which the family tomb is aligned was ill-suited in the year she died, she therefore had to be buried in the north-south direction for one year, until the suitability of direction changed in the next year.
Explanations: The relatives of the deceased are all in their
mourning dress. The males will participate in the burial, while the females
wail close by.

This is reburial ritual of Zuotang Zhang's maternal grandmother. At the first year anniversary of her death, the deceased was dug out from her temporary tomb and moved to the family tomb yard, whose east-west direction is now agreeable to burials. [1] Yin-yangs are practitioners of a folk religion in northern China. The practice is archaic, shamanic in nature, and endangered because of such factors as modernity. Please see my earlier post for the yin-yang practitioners.
